I didn’t move to Thailand chasing a dream of Bangkok. Work brought me here in 2019, and Thailand — in its own way — selected me, not the other way around. But years later, I can tell you without a shred of doubt: I’m very happy with how it turned out.
What started as just living here became something much more personal once I had a family of my own. My daughter was born here, and the care we received was excellent — the kind of experience that makes you trust a system, not just tolerate it. I’ve since had major abdominal surgery at Bangkok Hospital myself, and I manage my own heart condition here — hypertension and an enlarged heart — through the same advanced diagnostics (cardiac MRI, stress testing) that Thai hospitals do so well and so affordably. My wife has gone through cosmetic surgery here twice — facial and body — the kind of procedures people cross oceans for, both times with results we’re genuinely happy with. Every year, I go through a full comprehensive medical checkup, right alongside everything my family relies on.
Along the way, I learned something most visitors never get the chance to: this country has both world-class, internationally accredited hospitals, and quieter local clinics doing genuinely excellent work at a fraction of the cost — the kind of places you’d never find on a first trip, or trust without someone vouching for them.
